Reece was a perfectly healthy happy 3 year old boy until one day out of nowhere he wasn’t. Reece had a low grade fever for a few weeks before I demanded more and more tests be done. His only other symptom was pain that came and went in his bones. On June 1st we found out that my 3 year old beautiful baby boy has stage 4 Neuroblastoma. The cancer was all over. He had a blood transfusion and his port placed the following day. In lest than 6 months he has had 5 rounds of chemo, multiple surgeries including a 6 hour major surgery. He is currently recovering from his first bone marrow transplant and it has been a really painful and miserable for him. It has honestly been the most heartbreaking experience of my life. He can’t see his 5 year old brother unless it’s through a window but he hasn’t been able to that in over two weeks because of how sick he has been. The Doctors want him to start his second bone marrow transplant in Mid-December. We will be here for his 4th birthday and all holidays. When he recovers from the 2nd transplant he will start radiation and then 6 rounds of immunotherapy. Immunotherapy is extremely painful. He will be in ICU with a morphine drip for 5-6 days of each round. My name is Alissa and I am Reece’s Mom. I had to quite my job the day of his diagnosis to be with him. I would have it any other way but it has been financially and emotionally straining on all of us. Reece is the strongest, happiest, most loving boy. He will get through this and cancer is only PART of his story. 💙
