Hayden Hammers Cancer
Hayden is a sweet, athletic, playful and loving 7, soon to be 8 year old boy. His beautiful smile can light up a room. What he enjoys most is playing, watching and talking about hockey! Let’s Go Rangers! Hayden’s number one fan is his 4 year old sister, Hannah.
Hayden has Metastatic Ewing Sarcoma. It is a type of cancer (or tumor) that usually occurs in the bones or the soft tissues around the bones. The cancer began in his left foot and spread to his lungs.
February 27, 2017 marks the first day of Hayden’s fight against cancer. The treatment plan for Metastatic Ewing Sarcoma involves a combination of chemotherapy, surgery to remove the tumor (in his foot and lung) and radiation of his lungs. His treatment will last about 10 months. Hayden’s amazing doctors are all at Hackensack Meridian Hospital in Hackensack, NJ. Treatments are every other week and can range from a hospital stay of 3 -7 days. In between treatments, he gets transfusions of red blood cells and/or platelets to help keep him healthy. Hayden had major surgery to remove the tumor in his foot which included amputation of his middle toe on May 23, 2017. Hayden has not returned to school, but we are hopeful he will have the opportunity in January.
